Welcome to the TCLP archives. The TCLP has tons of recorded
history in Austin and it will eventually be found here.
You can also review the 2002 LP Conventions
where the current set of LP candidates and officers were selected.
Jeff Daiell Speaks in Austin
Gubernatorial candidate Jeff Daiell was the featured speaker at the
latest presentation of the Distinguished Speaker Series.
Jeff laid out his key issues and also talked about his strategy and tactics
for exceeding his impressive showing in the 1990 Gubernatorial contest. Jeff
also collected a tidy sum in on-the-spot campaign contributions. (If you want
to support Jeff too, his website has instructions for making donations
either online or by snail mail.)
Jeff also appeared at the
Bill of Rights Rally on Sat. Sept. 21. This event was well
attended by Constitution supporters and the media alike. Later
that evening he was a guest for one hour on Don Crawford's
"The Flipside" radio show on 590 KLBJ.
He also spoke on Sunday evening at the Hungry Horse
Restaurant in San Antonio for a group assembled by the
Bexar County Libertarian Party.
Bowie Ibarra Nominated for State Comptroller's Race
Bowie V. Ibarra, manager of the South Austin Redemption Center for
Norfed currency, was elected as the nominee for State Comptroller by
the State Executive Committee of the Libertarian Party. Mr. Ibarra
replaces Steve Martin who was declared ineligible for State Comptroller
after he switched to the U.S. Representative race in District 32.
At the same meeting, the Executive Committee also selected Dr. Betty
Hernandez of San Antonio as the new nominee for Land Commissioner.
Mr. Ibarra is a school teacher in Buda. He is also known for his
impassioned defense of alternatives to the federal banking system.
He was a featured speaker at the August 24th Bill of Rights Rally
at Woolridge Square where he presented many problems with the
central bank and touted alternatives to government fiat currency
such as the silver-backed NORFED currency.
Mr. Ibarra is one of 21 Libertarian Nominees from Travis County who
will appear on the November General Election Ballot. Vincent May
(Agricultural Commissioner), Mark Gessner (Lieutenant Governor) and
Jon Roland (Attorney General)
are the other Travis County residents nominated for statewide office.
The record size slate easily
eclipses the previous record of 12 local Libertarian candidates
which was achieved in the 2000 election cycle.
